Types of Respiration
The breakdown of glucose via a series of enzymes controlled reactions to
produce ATP.
1. Aerobic Respiration 2. Fermentation
LOTS of ATP produced in the presence of oxygen from the breakdown of glucose.
Location: Started in mitochondria Completed in mitochondria

Fermentation

2 ATP produced in the absence of oxygen from the breakdown of glucose.
Location: cytoplasm

Cellular Activities
The ATP produced from respiration (breakdown of glucose) is required for
cellular activities.
1. Protein Synthesis 2. Muscle cell contraction 3. Mitosis
